Life after Dissertation
There’s this feeling of emptiness now that the dissertation had been submitted. It feels awkward waking up in the morning and realizing there’s no more school work awaiting me. The dissertation must have dragged on far too long and it just seems surreal that it’s actually completed. Nonetheless, I know there’s the sense of relief […]
Japan’s Earthquake
The air seems particularly hot and stuffy today. Went to church, dim sum with family, watered my plants, tended my aquarium, and killed hours at night sitting in front of the TV – a typical Sunday routine. It must have been years that I have the habit not to do any “work” on Sundays (had […]
<>
Found the book that would serve as the starting point for my dissertation, it includes many relevant concepts and suggested further readings. Meanwhile, I went to the university library to pick up a few more books. The list of books to go through seems endless, but I really got to start composing the manuscript next […]
Mom’s Hearing Problem II
Father took Mom to the hospital today for her scheduled MRI scan. The report will be out tomorrow, hope it won’t be anything serious. Meanwhile, mom’s staying in the hospital overnight. For someone who’s extremely fearsome of sickness and death, I pray that God would give my mother extraordinary peace and a restful sleep tonight.
Mom’s Hearing Problem
My father took my mom to the hospital this afternoon, she had been complaining about the loss of hearing and occasional ‘ringing’ sound. It turned out, for reasons yet to know, one of her ears may have permanently loss 90% of hearing! I was unusually calm. Not a word uttered from my mouth as I […]
Chinese New Year 2011
It’s the Year of the Rabbit, my second Chinese New Year since returning to HK. The atmosphere is joyous and vibrant, but I didn’t feel as dramatic of a change as last year, another indicator that I’m well adapted to the lifestyle here. Spent the day with my family of ten – dim sum in […]
Father’s Worried Face
Since my uncle’s surgery last week, I started noticing the unceasing worried look on my father’s face. I’m usually not too observant towards my family’s looks or expressions, but the dark cloud around my father is too overwhelming to go unnoticed this time. Dear Lord, please continue to heal my uncle. Have mercy on his […]
Uncle’s Surgery
My father tagged me along to see my uncle at the hospital last night. My uncle’s cancerous cells had come back after operation a few years ago. There was nothing I could do other than quietly stand in the hospital room listening to my father’s brotherly conversation with my uncle. The timely scheduled surgery started […]
Sluggish Week
The past week was rather sluggish. Other than borrowing some books and going to a couple of lectures and a workshop, I had done nothing academically! Now that I’ve put aside all my freelance work and claimed myself to be a “full-time” student, I feel guilty to be wasting time like this. Really need to […]
Flood in Queensland
Just read the story of Noah’s Ark for my daily devotion, images of the Queensland’s flood from the media kept flashing in my head. I pray for those who are suffering and struggling to stay alive. God, may you remember your everlasting covenant with humankind when a rainbow appears. Please have mercy on your creation.
