Calligraphy Madness
Other than sleep, I think I had spent more time in calligraphy than any other activities this past week. There were a few nights that I indulged in calligraphy past 3am! Managed to write out all the characters for the Hundred Surnames (百家姓). Next step will be to derive artworks, products, and teaching materials from […]
Canada Day
There are a few commonalities between my 2 homes – Hong Kong and Canada. Their flags are colored in red and white and include a symbolic flora, and they both share a public holiday on July 1st. In HK, the handover of a colonial democratic government to a brutal dictator regime on July 1st 1997 […]
New Studio T-shirts
Used my amateurish silkscreen printing skill to design and print some studio t-shirts. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m never a fashionable guy, and more like a cartoon character, I prefer to wear the “same” clothes each day. With the set of studio t-shirts printed, I’ll likely spend […]
New Tools
Invested in some Dremel tools today – little by little I’m turning a part of the studio into my dream DIY space, feels a bit like going back to the enjoyable highschool DT/shop classes. I cannot be more thankful for this studio space, really need to devise a plan that’s sustainable economically, environmentally, and socially.
Saturdays
Saturdays has become more and more routine these days. It usually starts off with me sleeping in with the alarm clock turned off, followed by the regular morning routine which includes a light breakfast while reading the daily news on my iPad. It’s usually early afternoon by the time I get back to the studio. […]
Creative Monday
After spending much of the time last week cleaning up the studio, I told myself that I must seriously get back to work this week, so I particularly cherish this Creative Monday. I indulged myself today with DIY, cartooning, and oil painting. I think I’m now ready to start new and get back to work […]
DIY Lantern
My sister and brother-in-law couldn’t join our regular family dim sum after church today, I decided to skip as well. Instead of the regular Sunday routine, I decided to spend the day in the quiet studio. Insisted not to work on a Sunday, I let creativity take control and designed a DIY lantern in preparation […]
A New Start
The first quarter of year 2014 seemed to have passed all too quickly, I seemed to have lost track of time. This may have to do with the fact that I stopped the habit of writing down my daily to-do items since the start of the year. Printed out some DIY daily to-do lists for […]
JCCAC Visit
There was a DIY fair at the JCCAC this weekend, it was a good opportunity for a social activity with a couple of my primary school buddies – one of them is interested in seeing architectural renewal projects and the other knows a friend who has a booth set up there. I didn’t go without […]
Creative Friday
Was occupied by work for the last couple of Fridays and couldn’t allocate an uninterrupted period of time to do creative work. It was good to be able to put aside my computer and indulge in a little DIY activity today. Had been thinking over the past, and thinking more frequently recently, would it be […]
